I was in Berlin at the time of the disaster in 2011, but I happened to be in Japan on March 11th these last three years. Every time I watched the memorial ceremony on TV and prayed silently at 14:46, the time when the earthquake occurred.
After the experiences of visiting the disaster-stricken areas in Tohoku several times in past years (Ishinomaki & Tagajo), I wanted to dedicate something personal to the victims with music. So I decided to compose the cadenzas for the Mozart Piano Concerto in D minor kv.466 prior to the performance last January.
I tried to express the violence of natural disaster, the fear and the sadness, the prayer for the victims & the peace, the strength of human mind, the eternal awe for the nature and so on.
And here are the video clips of the performance (including the encore).
I hope you will have emotions listening to them.
live in Neuilly sur Seine (France) on January 23rd.
